Threat Level Description

IthacaLabs has maintained the Threat Level (High) adding a new observation:

An attack is highly likely. Addressing the broad nature of the threat in order to reach an acceptable risk level, requires additional and sustainable protective security measures combined with specific business and geographical vulnerabilities and judgments.

Description

We have observed that a key piece of the internet’s usually hidden infrastructure, Cloudflare, suffered a global outage, causing error messages to flash up across websites and services.

Cloudflare, a US company whose services include defending millions of websites against malicious attacks, experienced an unidentified problem, which meant internet users could not access some of its customers’ websites.

Cloudfare saw a spike in unusual traffic to one of its services. That caused some traffic passing through Cloudflare’s network to experience errors. While most traffic for most services continued to flow as normal, there were elevated errors across multiple Cloudflare services.

Affected users saw a message indicating there was an “internal server error on Cloudflare’s network”

Applications, such as Spotify, Amazon and OpenAI and X, experienced outages.

Cloudflare is aware of the issue and currently investigating in order to mitigate the problem.

This outage hit nearly a month after Amazon Web Services experienced problems with its service, disrupting a wide range of online services for hours.

UPDATE: Cloudflare mentioned: A fix has been implemented and we believe the incident is now resolved. We are continuing to monitor for errors to ensure all services are back to normal.
